ACT 2012 National Curriculum Survey
The Survey asks educators about what they teach in their courses and how important they feel various topics are for students to know to be succcessful in the courses and future courses. The survey also targeted policy implications on preparing for higher standards. Queried educators included those teaching at the middle school level all the way through the postscondary level.
Emerging Federal Role for Competency Education
This report, released on April 25, 2013, is the the first part of KnowledgeWorks' "Competency Education Series." The report is designed to help policymakers develop a deeper understanding of the competency model, the growing national movement, and key barriers within federal accountability and assessment systems that pose a challenge to this work.
Strengthening High School Teaching and Learning in New Hampshire's Competency-Based System
This report, released by the Alliance for Excellent Education in January 2013, profiles how two high schools in New Hampshire made this shift and examines the necessary changes at both the school and in state policy. Competency-based advancement is an important part of New Hampshireâ??s strategy for implementing the Common Core State Standards and meeting the state department of educationâ??s goal that every student â??deserves a course of study that allows him or her to learn in a deep, meaningful, and practical way.â?Ì
Catching Up to College and Career Readiness - ACT Report
This report, released by ACT in December 2012, finds that narrowing performance gaps for low-income studetns and students of color requires prevention interventions over remediation. In an effort to determine at what point in a student's education he or she is most able to catch up to grade-level standards, teh ACT team analyzes test scores of students between 4th and 8th grade and those between 8th and 12th grade.
Equity in Education and the future of the American Economy
This report, released by the Alliance for Excellent Education in November 2012, argues that raising individuals' education will boost their purchasing power and increase the national economy. It also incorporates discussion on educational inequity for non-white individuals compared with white populations.
Back on Track through College in the Rio Grande Valley
This report was released by first Focus in August 2012 and highlights activities being undertaken in the Rio Grande Valley region to address dropout recovery and promote psotsecondary success.
