About the Forum

The 2022 NYEC All Youth Connecting Forum is a two-day national virtual conference that brings together youth leaders, practitioners, policymakers and stakeholders who are interested in advancing the lives of opportunity youth.

Participants will co-create a space for advocacy, information sharing, insight cultivation, and mobilization around several conference tracks listed below. In this space, participants will explore challenges young people face across the nation, educate one another on solutions that can be implemented in communities and empower each other to guide our work towards transforming lives of Opportunity Youth.

Session Proposals

We welcome proposals broadly related to improving the lives of marginalized young adults across the nation. We especially welcome current or former opportunity youth to propose sessions and attend the conference. Sessions are 50-minutes long and will take place via Zoom's interface.

Youth Action Hour

Are you a young adult that can use $500 to support your passion project? We will invite you to present your ideas at the Forum, with each Action Hour presenter receiving $500 each. Conference attendees will vote on awarding an additional $500 to one grantee. During the Action Hour in June, the Forum’s attendees will also give feedback and support to the young adult awardees’ projects.

Sessions and Conference Tracks

Our virtual convening will feature dynamic topics from experts and youth leaders across the country. Sessions will be 50-minutes long and are designed to foster  dialogue and peer-to-peer learning. Our conference session tracks are listed below. We invite applicants from all geographic areas, issue areas and age groups who are geared towards expanding and improving opportunities for young people.

This track will feature efforts to create safer communities via different interventions beyond policing. We will feature models that incorporate positive-youth development alongside community violence prevention. Other possible topics include mobile response teams, combatting collateral consequences, enhancing equity among formerly incarcerated youth and community-designed interventions for creating safe spaces for youth.

This track is about expanding opportunities for young people! The track will feature sessions related to educational opportunities, employment, employer engagement, reengagement, the arts, gig-work, the green economy, entrepreneurship among others.

The Surgeon General recently released an alarming report on youth and mental health. As you know, young people disconnected from school and work, systems-involved youth, and youth experiencing homelessness live with trauma and have been over-represented and underserved when it comes to mental health. This track will feature innovative ideas and best practices related to centering self-care, mental health and wellness amongst young adults especially as it relates to the workplace.

2022 mid-terms, the future of work, post-pandemic goals and more will be featured in this track! This forward-looking track will be centered on youth voice, grassroots organizing, and advocacy and advocacy on issues around employment and the workplace.

This track is designed to empower and give voice to populations that have been currently and historically marginalized. These populations but are not limited to youth with disabilities, immigrant youth, LGBT youth, BIPOC, rural, and foster care, among others.

The world of work is constantly changing and this track will highlight some of the best innovations in the field of youth employment. From social media use, social capital, technology, work-from home, and more, this track will feature the most up-to-date conversations impacting employment and the workplace.
