City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department Awarded DOL Grant For Compass Rose Collaborative

The City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) was one of three cities awarded a grant from the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration (DOL-ETA) awarded grant for “The Compass Rose Collaborative”(CRC), a young-adult reentry program for participants. The program attacks one of the most serious social problems reentry youth face: the challenge of successfully entering the workforce and educational systems after significant brushes with the law.

The youth participants, 18 to 24 years old, are screened and recruited to be engaged in an intensive career pathway training program at one of our local community college for 6 weeks. All of their participants earn a Labor Ready Apprentice Certificate, OSHA 10 or 30, Forklift Training, and participate in physical training activities everyday! Their participants complete about 200 hours of training and they have a success rate of 90% completion rate. The City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department’s goal is to implement our program model throughout the entire city.
